Medical Director

Start Date:
August 22, 2005

"I chose to work for the VNA because I feel I give a service to patients that really need it and that is very satisfying. VNA has allowed me to progress in my career by being active in two hospitals and VNA progressed when the computer was introduced to our practice. The environment is very friendly and professional. I feel I grew with the growth of our patient levels and I look forward to a continued satisfied future with the VNA."

Certified Nurse Assistant, Tomcat SBHC

Start Date:
April 24, 1990

"The reason I chose VNA as my employer was because my mother was cared for by VNA Home Health nurses. They were all so caring, kind, gentle, and compassionate to her. All of the nurses went the extra mile to meet her needs. This made me decide to apply for a job. Almost 19 years later and I still think VNA is a great place to work."

Certified Nurse Assistant, Pediatrics

Start Date:
September 7, 2005

"I joined VNA because I am bilingual in Spanish and English and I wanted to help communicate between patients and providers to make sure they get the proper medical attention they need. I am proud to be employed at the VNA because it is community oriented. Employees at the VNA are people focused and help anyone and everyone. I enjoy helping people and seeing them return for our compassionate and caring services. "

Director of Human Resources

Start Date:
January 2, 2008

"In 1999, VNA Home Health came to my home to care for me during my difficult pregnancy. I had a central line and home IVs for the first trimester. This was my husband Larry and my first pregnancy. We were very scared for our daughter (Grace) and myself. My care was rotated between Larry, my Mom (Judy) and VNA nurses. One nurse, Lee Ann Martens, always stood out to me for her compassion and sensitivity to my illness. When I saw “my” job posted for VNA I felt as this was my opportunity to give back and make a difference. I feel blessed to serve an organization with such a strong mission and employees who are here for a bigger purpose - to help others!"

Accounts Payable

Start Date:
November 13, 2006

"My employment at VNA started as a temporary employee but from my perspective it was a wonderful twist of fate! Our services are professional yet always caring; there is a great pride in saying “I work at VNA Health Care”. The employees have displayed real caring for themselves and each other, thus creating a more congenial work environment. When work loads seem overwhelming, there’s always someone willing to pitch in. Finally, the emphasis that is placed on family and home concerns is great; employees are encouraged to take care of family/home issues without any worry about their jobs. I plan to make VNA my last employer before retirement!"

Director of Marketing

Start Date:
April 15, 1993

"I first came to work for VNA in 1993, just a couple of years out of college. I found a job doing what I wanted to do - marketing and public relations for a health care agency. At this time, the main office and health center were a small operation in downtown Aurora (home health and hospice the largest programs). I learned a lot, gained confidence and looked forward to going to work. It was a bittersweet day when I left VNA five years later to further my career. Fast forward ten years, and in the spring of 2008 I had the opportunity to come back to VNA. I found an organization that was in many ways radically different, yet very much the same. VNA raised a million dollars to buy its own ‘home’ (bringing clinic services and administration together), they became a Federally Qualified Health Center (now the largest portion of the business), and the staff doubled in size! I found the same supportive environment where everyone focused on common goals. The leadership at VNA remained committed to the mission and values during these years of change which is why they remain essentially the same."

Receptionist

Start Date:
May 1, 2000

"In 2000 my previous employer was purchased and most of the employees were let go. One of my co-workers suggested that I apply at VNA for a Receptionist position that was available. I went to VNA, filled out an application, interviewed, and was hired. I felt at home from the first day. When I was growing up, I was interested in being a nurse, as I liked to help people. Even though I’m not a nurse, I feel as if I am still helping people. I also enjoy working with my fellow employees. VNA also gave me the opportunity to be a Hospice Volunteer, allowing me to help others. VNA is always looking for new ways to provide the best community service to people in Aurora as well as the surrounding communities. I am proud of the opportunity to work for VNA and witness the growth of the company over the years and to see what the future will hold."

Doula

Start Date:
October 17, 2003

"In 1975 I came from Jalisco (where I was a Certified Accountant and Addictions Counselor) to Aurora. At this time I did not speak any English. I have always felt that people set their own limitations. There is always hope. I am so proud that I can help my community while loving what I do. My daughter sent my resume to VNA and when they called me I decided to come in to just practice how to interview. At the interview, I was very calm and loved how they described the position but did not think I had enough experience. I could not believe they called me and offered me a job. I realized I needed to do my best because they trusted me. Five years later I still love my job. I enjoy making a difference. A job I was at for 20 years before VNA only gave me one week of vacation - I have so many days off at VNA that I don’t know how to use all of my time - I get two months off a year! VNA offers me flexibility and is family friendly. I am proud to work here. I already reached my dreams, and now I am helping others reach their dreams."

Nurse Practitioner, Family Practice/Tomcat SBHC

Start Date:
August 4, 2008

"When I graduated, I knew that I wanted to work for a community health center. I was looking for a place that provided quality, compassionate health care to anyone who may be in need of it. I found this and more at the VNA. I continue to be impressed by the VNA’s dedication to explore new avenues and reaching out to people in various locations. I have been lucky enough to work in several of those areas – the clinic on Highland Avenue, Tomcat Health Center at East High, and most recently on a few trips out for the VNA House Calls program. I have found the staff at the VNA to be respectful, helpful and welcoming. As a new provider I was received with open arms and infinite patience. Now, more than a year later, I consider the people I work with to be almost as close as family. We share our victories, frustrations, and defeats. I’m proud to work for an organization and alongside other people so dedicated to their mission."

Clinical Coordinator

Start Date:
April 1, 2005

"My background was in a hospital setting for acute care patients. To think I would change jobs and work in a FQHC seemed unlikely to me. I was introduced to the VNA as a clinic that helps the underserved. Once I learned more it sounded like my ideal job as I became a nurse to help people. I noticed right away that the VNA were strong advocates for the community’s health needs and this is what I had always been aspired to do, help our society. As I have grown in my responsibilities here, I have also learned to appreciate the opportunities that it has given me to become a better advocate to our community. I also appreciate that VNA assists patients who may not otherwise be able to obtain health care services. I have witnessed patients who urgently need a procedure to avoid further complications, and we were able to assist them. I really believe we are very lucky to have a clinic that does so much for our community and to be a part of it makes it even more special. I can honestly say “I Love My Job."

President/CEO

Start Date:
November 7, 1988

"Almost 20 years ago to the day, I was interviewing for a new job. I had a number of interviews and one of them was for a position in the Intake Department with the VNA Health Care. I remember thinking that I had felt a really great connection at VNA – the interview went so well! I consulted my “life coach” (mother) and she gave me the best bit of career advice I’ve ever received - “Take the position that feels right, all the rest will come naturally.” Twenty years and three positions later, I feel as satisfied personally and professionally as the day I started. We have grown into a $16m not-for-profit organization providing a wide range of community health nursing and primary care services in home and clinic settings. I love the entrepreneurialism and the fact that every day brings a new challenge and opportunity. Most of all, I enjoy the work because of its meaning. For most of us at VNA, the meaning has become our “life’s work.” We know, at the end of the day, we provide quality, compassionate care to at least 50,000 people a year - care that likely would not be available otherwise because the patient has little or no health insurance or because the patient cannot easily leave his home. The meaning behind the work provides the daily inspiration for all of us at VNA to continually find ways to meet healthcare needs in the communities we serve!"

Registered Nurse Care Manager

Start Date:
July 2, 2007

"There were many reasons I chose to work for the VNA Health Care. Being a psychiatric nurse and working in an inpatient and residential setting caused me to be inquisitive regarding how patient’s function in their own home environment. As there are limited services for mentally ill patients, I wanted to help. Providing care for these patients in their homes as well as medical patients has been very rewarding and self-gratifying. The improvements the patient’s make with one on one attention are remarkable. I enjoy being able to use my Spanish speaking skills as well as all of my medical skills; as home health offers many different complex cases. Teaching is another passion of mine and I am able to use this passion daily through educating students, new nurses and patients. The VNA offers flexibility in scheduling and room to grow as an employee. VNA employees also make the workplace very enjoyable!"

Family Practice/House Calls

Start Date:
October 5, 2009

"As a native Filipino I have witnessed and experienced first-hand the importance of quality medical care, especially for the underserved. During my residency at Cook County - Loyola- Provident FM program, I have been working in a clinic specifically tailored to help the underserved community. After finishing my chief residency, I found an employment at a union clinic for 2 yrs that mainly takes care of their members with limited service to the under-insured and un-insured. It was a very stable and financially rewarding job. But, I never felt so incomplete. So I decided to work part time at an FQHC. I then realized that being a physician for those who could not afford quality medical care otherwise was what I love to do. It is my passion and it is what I needed to pursue. This pursuit has led me back to VNA, where I see the dedication and commitment to the underserved. I have known VNA previously, and for the past 2 years, I have seen enormous growth to honor that commitment. I know that VNA will continue to grow and I am glad to be a part of it."

WIC Coordinator

Start Date:

"VNA was the perfect employer from the start; not too large of an agency since I love to get to know everyone and not to small with room for growth. This agency is different from all the rest because it houses a variety of specialties. Here I have been able to apply all of my skills and grow as a professional in more ways than I imagined. I am also honored to work with so many other people invested in the well-being of our clientele and employees."

"I used to be a stay at home mom and I loved it. I thought I would never want to work outside of my house again. However, when my husband’s business came to an end it required me to find a job. I didn’t want just any job because I knew it was going to be a hard transition. I wanted to find a job where I could help others and be happy. In 2005, I was hired to work for the VNA; it has been a wonderful experience. Our team in Elgin is very unique and I have really enjoyed working with all of them. We share the same goal of helping others and using our talents which leads to a positive environment. I am proud to work for the VNA and knowing that I am able to help our patients and my team."

Medical Director

Start Date:
August 1, 2005

"I joined the VNA Health Care in 2005 as an OB/GYN physician and once I completed my two year contract I left for another opportunity. My departure was a bitter sweet experience, I was leaving a job I enjoyed and loved. In 2009, I am glad and excited to be rehired by the VNA Health Care. While I was away I missed the patients who are always so appreciative of the care provided by the VNA and the personal fulfillment I received from being part of an organization that is dedicated to providing compassionate and affordable quality care to the community regardless of their payor status. I also missed the friendly staff and peaceful work environment. I am happy to be back at the VNA Health Care."
